I will never use them again either. Thanks for the misery and the lack or morals. NOTHING will change my mind on this. Oh, wait a minute...pay off the 1900.00 I paid. Then pay for a new cat. Punitive payments for pain and suffering for a child who lost her pet .....? The whole experience was disgusting and painful.
Avoid! Read the reviews on this place and other emergency vet facilities. BIG difference. IMO and in my experience they are all about taking your money and taking advantage of your grief and love for your pet. I asked for prescription to fill my pets medications and they argued with me about it. Their RX charge 5x as much vs my filling at pharmacy or online. They didn't want to give me a script after I already spent thousands on a pet that has very poor prognosis. As pet owners we need to save $$ where possible so our money can go to actual treatment, not getting raped on medication costs. I asked to have certain tests done a few days later so not a weekend charge at 2x the already high cost. Nope! Wouldn't do it! Thankfully I found a wonderful vet practice that would - and that wrote me prescriptions so when - if - I refill the meds I won't waste my money paying 5x the cost. It's true what our people posted - they do try to guilt trip you if you don't agree to tests being done at the very high "after hours" fee - tests that could wait a couple days to be done during regular business hours at their regular rates. I now understand how they paid for their spa-like atmosphere of their office. I prefer a clean, not fancy but professional looking clinic where the staff actually cares about the pets and their caretakers and try to keep costs reasonable so we can do our best for our fur babies. I'd give ZERO stars if I could.
Update: My cat passed away due to their negligence
Brought my cat in less than a month ago for a urinary blockage. They were able to remove the blockage, but called me to say they thought I could come pick him up, but they weren't 100% it was safe to bring him home, but I should come pick him up. I asked for more information on why I should pick him up if they weren't 100% sure it was safe to bring him home. They said "oh wait he just peed! It's fine to bring him home now." 3 weeks later, today I brought him in again for the same issue. And while I'm aware these things can recur, I'm not 100% positive they removed the full blockage before sending him home. I've done everything I'm supposed to do for him, the so food, constant fresh water, extra clean litter, etc. They told me I wasn't doing what I was supposed to do and that's why he's back. Then they told me I'll need $5,000 to do the surgery but if I can't afford that they'll euthanize him. All while leaving me in a room with photos of the pets they've euthanized in the past. Not till I started crying did they direct me to another hospital that was $1,200 instead. Upon check out, they had me sign waivers saying I wasn't paying the $5g and I'd be taking him elsewhere. The cashier looked at me and said "You're refusing TREATMENT???" I told her I will not be talked to like that and I am taking him to a more affordable hospital for treatment. This place doesn't care about our babies. They only care about money and they will talk down to and insult you unless you have over the cash. One of the vets even told me she's "not a cat person." Save your babies and your money and your heartache and go elsewhere where they actually care about their patients! I also want to add that the vet told me I must have done something to traumatize my cat which could make this happen again. I never traumatize any of my babies and never would. You should NEVER blame the owner for something unless neglect/abuse is evident. I do everything for my boys and they don't want for anything.
I am so thankful for the caring service we received from Dr. Paul Cunningham and staff. He was very honest with us about the costs to save our cat and how hard a road it would be for him including life long care. They comforted us and did not make us feel guilty when we made the decision to put him down. Afterwards he sent a personalized sympathy note, which touched us deeply.
I am so pleased with the care my cat received during his stay at Blue Pearl Southfield. He had a long list of health problems and the doctor and staff were extremely careful with him, as he was very sick and old. My cat did pass a week after his hospital stay, but the doctor did communicate to me that it could happen soon. I greatly appreciated her honestly and gentle demeanor. She made everything a lot easier. I also would like to give credit to the tech or assistant named Theresa. She helped discharge my cat and was so sweet and caring, even knowing her for a few minutes she made me feel a lot better about the whole situation. I felt very confident having them care for my sweet, sick kitty. Thanks again!!
The price was extremely high and the possible diagnoses were just guesses. It was really a waste of money and no correct diagnosis. My cat died 2 weeks after being in there and we saw a new vet before he died. The new vet was honest with me and told me that even thousands of dollars would not save him. As a single mom with lower income I now have great debt to pay off and no pet now. I highly recommend second opinions but if you have large amounts of spare cash, go ahead. They just prey on the people who care about their pets, trying to get as much cash as possible. I see them as salespeople first and foremost. No other thought than money. I even suspect the referring vet locally got a cut.
